Benji reshuffles bench as rival halves stars gear up for NSW No. 6 audition: NRL Late Mail (2025)

NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley will be watching intently as his two leading contenders for the No.6 jersey do battle on Easter Monday.

Jarome Luai and Mitchell Moses partned in the NSW halves to steer their state to a comeback victory during the 2024 series.

Moses was in fine form after returning from injury in Game II, but Panthers superstar Nathan Cleary is set to slot back into the No.7 jersey during the 2025 series.

That leaves only one spot vacant in the halves, with Daley previously stating he believes Moses could “most definitely” partner Cleary come Game I.

“The key for Mitch is obviously to get back and play,” Daley said on NRL360 in early April.

“I was really impressed with what he did in last year’s series. I thought his kicking game was fantastic last year. His ability to be able to make the plays when the game was on the line really impressed me.

“In game three, when the big moments rolled around, he was able to deliver. I think he’s got the ability to play five-eighth in Origin as well.”

Moses will play his first game for the Eels since Round 18 last season in Monday, having been sidelined in 2025 due to a stress reaction in his foot.

Daley makes his return as Blues coach in 2025, taking over from 2024 series-winning coach Michael Maguire.

Daley last coached NSW eight years ago and the 55-year-old could only manage one series win from his five series as coach between 2013 and 2017.
